Damaged Slide Remounting Instructions

Everything you need to remount damaged slides or to change old paper mounts into plastic Gepe type slide mounts.  Order the kit to remount your slides, order additional slide mounts by the hundred.
Remounting supplies are available now in the pull down menu at the bottom of the page.
Remounting Instructions:
Step 1:   Determine the emulsion side, this is usually the dull side, or the side that seems to have texture that matches the contours of the slides image.  This is the emulsion side. you will want to remember this side for later.
Step 2: Slice along the top  with a sharp knife, Xacto blade or single edge razor.  Do not cut more than about 1/4 of an inch.  Not too deeply so as to damage the slide chip.
Step 3:Slice along the left side with a sharp knife, Xacto blade or single edge razor.  Do not cut more than about 1/4 of an inch.  Not too deeply so as to damage the slide chip.
Step 4:Slice along the right side with a sharp knife, Xacto blade or single edge razor.  Do not cut more than about 1/4 of an inch.  Not too deeply so as to damage the slide chip.
Step 5: gently peel open the old slide mount to expose the slide chip.  You should not need to exert too much force if you cut the mount properly.
Step 6: Gently wipe the slide chip after it is removed from the old mount.  You can use film cleaner, but it is hazardous.  A clean lens cleaning cloth or soft cotton t-shirt type material will do if you do not use too much pressure and wipe real hard.  DO NOT USE WATER TO CLEAN THE SLIDE CHIP!
Step 7: Using the mount opener and Gepe or Pakon type plastic slide mount, open the mount and insert the slide chip into the mount emulsion side up.  Push the slide chip mostly into the mount.
Step 8: Finish by sliding the slide chip all the way into the mount and with slight movement move it up and down a little until it locks into place.  It will just kind of settle, not snapping or other visible or audible sign will tell you it is locked in except that it will barely more now.
